PLAY's essential idea
William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" explores the whimsical interplay between love and illusion. The play delves into the mystical world of fairies and humans, intertwining their romantic entanglements, mistaken identities, and magical mishaps.
poster concept
Capturing the essence of a classic play involved a delicate balance of tradition and innovation. I aimed for a design that instantly shouts Shakespeare while adding humor and boldness.
In the playful world of the play, a character's head turns into a donkey one for a delightful twist. Roses are symbol of love and passion. Merging these elements through the forced connection, the poster becomes a subtle tribute to Shakespeare's iconic portrait.
PLAY's plot
Three witches tell the Scottish general Macbeth that he will be King of Scotland. Encouraged by his wife, Macbeth kills the king, becomes the new king, and kills more people out of paranoia. Civil war erupts to overthrow Macbeth, resulting in more death.
poster concept
The figure behind Macbeth (his ambitious wife) giving him a sword and putting a crown on his head. The figure is hidden and seems to be the cape of a general - she is though the main player in this evil plot.
PLAY's plot
Viola, separated from her twin Sebastian, dresses as a boy and works for the Duke Orsino, whom she falls in love with. Orsino is in love with the Countess Olivia, and sends Viola to court her for him, but Olivia falls for Viola instead. Sebastian arrives, causing a flood of mistaken identity, and marries Olivia. Viola then reveals she is a girl and marries Orsino.
poster concept
The playful concept of dressing up and disguise leading to ambiguity and absurd situations. The character's real nature is revealed by a random flower appearing in front of him.
PLAY's plot
Lucentio loves Bianca but cannot court her until her shrewish older sister Katherina marries. The eccentric Petruccio marries the reluctant Katherina and uses a number of tactics to render her an obedient wife. Lucentio marries Bianca and, in a contest at the end, Katherina proves to be the most obedient wife.
poster concept
One of the meaning of the word Shrew is a gorgon. The mythic strong semi-goddess becomes subordinate, her scary snake hair is braided in an obedient braid.
